Bluebird and roses

...but not whiskers on kittens. Soon it will be Winter in Australia, stitchy friends, and I'm starting to feel it...I'm bolstering myself with lashings of craft books, cups of tea and the comfort of the couch. So my apologies for my absence of late. But you know what always cheers me up? Wee birdies! So here's some more.
These little birds originally came from a mail order advertisement in a newspaper, and happily, whoever originally ordered the pattern kept the newspaper clipping:

" Simple embroidery" from "our new and exciting Needlework book for 1956!"
"So simple, a child could do these embroidery stitches!" "Dozens of other designs to order, all easy, fascinating hand-work!"
You know, I'm willing to part with my 25 cents for my copy of "this wonderful book" right now!

Alas, I think I'd get a "Dear Crazy Person" reply to my letter, if indeed The Daily Review is still at that address in New York. In the meantime, let's enjoy the birdies and rosies and whiskers on kittens...

What cheers you up, by the way? Leave me a comment on this post by the end of the week (Friday that is), and I'll pick someone at random for a stitchy pressie suprise!

I love seeing what stitchy treasures you have in store each time you post. I have been doing mostly vintage embroidery lately. There is something so special about it. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into sharing your finds! Love Stacy

In no particular order... hot chocolate, a good book, Ratchet and Clank, gin, any Final Fantasy game, creating something I love, They Might Be Giant's Birdhouse in your Soul... you know, the usual. :)

Hi, I so enjoy stopping by to visit here. Now, what cheers me up... handwritten letters in the mail, the sounds of baby's laughter, the smell of bread baking in the oven. Thanks for sharing you patterns. blessings, Kathleen

Embroidery blogs, roses blooming (actually any flower bloomimg in the yard), and old dogs in shelters that get adopted always make me feel better. Oh and going through my box of floss and looking at all the colors is a quick way cheer myself up.

It's definitely time for bolstering here too. My picks are a good DVD, some really awesome embroidery on hand and the smell of baking bread.

a cup of strong tea & a chocolate biscuit helps, as does a sloppy kiss from one of my childerbeasts...

Good smooth chocolate, singing along to Meredith Brooks' "Bitch" on my iPod, seeing one of my embroidered tea towels hanging in the kitchen, snuggling with my sons...

honest (an completely predictable) little birds cheep me up. Lots of things cheer me up - people I don't know smiling at me, people being polite and remembering their manners, a random hug from someone I care about, embroidery, crafting with a cat (sometimes 2) on my lap, warm cosy bed with no particular time to get up/be asleep for, people commenting on my blog... As you can see I'm really easily pleased! Thanks for the pattern - it's lovely x

I just clicked over from somewhere (I can't recall right now...do you know how that happens?) and had to say thank you for sharing all of these beautiful old transfers. It is really kind of you and I am just about dying to get started on something...I just can't decide what! :)

My "new" thrifted pillowcases cheer me up so much that I can't wait to get my bed made in the morning just so I can walk past the door and admire them. lol My next pillowcase adventure will be to do some embroidery on them like I've seen on your blog. Ahhh, your blog, another think that makes me smile.
